Posts, boards, joists, cladding , battens sleepers - and structural timber for sheds, pergolas, and more. All produced in a Hampshire woodland sawmill from our own trees.
The Spruce trees used for timber take around 60-65 years to reach matrurity so can be fully replaced in this time and are productive in as little as 10 years. oaks and other hardwoods can take 150 years and produce less productive timber per hectare. Imported trees have a large transportation carbon footprint. These trees have grown and travelled just a few miles and are truly local.
From fence posts and gate posts to sleepers and structural timber. I can cut timber to the customer's specific reqirements before delivery. See prices lists below. and if you don't see your exact size just ask!
Some timber suppliers offer low prices, and hide the delivery charges to the very end, hoping you will persevere, even when delivery can cost nearly as much as the timber itself!
I won't rip you off. Let me know postcode and I'll give you an estimate. If you live in South Hants it won't ever be more than £20 and in most cases is less than this and in my local area may even be free!
Also I will only ask for a small deposit, and for repeat customers no deposit at all. You only pay me when I deliver the timber. There are no scams or scammers in my wood!!
The timber is dried in my woodsheds and treated with clear water based preservatives such as Lignum or Probor. I can treat with "real" traditional creosote (not creocote or substitutes) for a small additional charge if the timber is dry.
Laydean Wood sits in the heart of the South Downs National Park near Petersfield in Hampshire. The area is very rural and consists of agricultural cereal production interpersed with woodlands, of which mine is a typical small example. I purchased it in 2018 with the intention of gradually transforming it from coniferous forest to a mixed woodland by felling and replacing the conifers with a variety of softwoods and typical native British trees. So far we have replanted oak (sessile and penduculate), beech, lime, wild cherry, sweet chestnut, hornbeam, maple (field and Norway), sycamore, hazel and some scots pine.
The conifers are felled, trimmed, sliced and then milled into posts, boards, joists and planks before being stored to dry. All done on site within the wood confines.
My timber products are competitively priced and I can usually deliver locally around Hampshire for a small charge. Check the price list on this website. If you don't see the sizes or lengths you require, just ask for a price. Generally the rule is if I can carry it, I can do it!
The little dog is Mabel, my spaniel labrador cross who came to work with me every day. Sadly Mabel died suddenly at just two years old, but she loved the woods and I still miss her keeping an eye on me. We now have her niece and nephew and the woods are once again filled with happy barking.
